- Length:1 mile
1 hour for shopping and fun (a beautiful place to spend the day)
On the northern edge of the park, you'll see Saints Peter and Paul Church, which offers services in Chinese, Italian and English. Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio had their wedding photos taken here, although they were not permitted to wed inside the church itself.
Stroll down Columbus to find fabulous thin-crust pizza from L'Osteria
del Forno (519 Columbus), or try a cup of coffee from Cafe Puccini (411 Columbus), Caffe Greco (423 Columbus), or Caffe Roma (526
Columbus). It becomes very easy to see why they call it little Italy.
On the southwest corner at Broadway is the famous City Lights
Bookstore (261 Columbus), founded and run by the Beat Poet
Lawrence Ferlinghetti.
Vesuvio (255 Columbus), a tiny bar next door, is
lined with historic photos of its famous Beat clientele.
Turn north on Grant, lined with funky clothing boutiques (vintage,
eclectic, and specialty). Continue down Grant and then turn left on
Union to return to the park. Chocolate fans will want to finish their walk
at XOX Truffles (754 Columbus), voted one of the top 10 artisan
chocolatiers in the U.S.
